October 2014 Minutes

  1. Call to Order – thanks to Jim for arranging the meeting space at ARC
  2. Minutes from last meeting: Moved to bypass reading
  3. Treasurer’s Report
    1. About $6k less than last month as checks out to pay for AI charity and Post Mortem meeting
    2. Jon distributed report of balance changes over last month
    3. AI – $117K, Gamicon $18K, ICON $18K, MB Checking $53k, Total MB assets including CD’s $285k.
  4. ICON Report
    1. will have 25 authors at the pre-ICON Barnes and Noble signing on Oct 30th
    2. T-shirt order deadline is Oct 1st
    3. Pre-registration deadline is Oct 12th
    4. Program book nearly done and about ready to be sent to publisher
    5. Online schedule is up at http://icon392014.sched.org and can sync with Google Calendar, etc
    6. Next staff meeting Saturday Oct 18th, 1:30 PM at John and Shawn’s
  5. Gamicon Report
    1. Website is up and pre-registration open
    2. Next staff meeting Oct 5 at Nigel and Susans.
  6. AnimeIowa Report
    1. Post Mortem meeting was last month
    2. Plan to submit capital requests to MB so they can purchase equipment rather than rent.
    3. Next staff meeting is Saturday Oct 18th, 2 pm, Coralville Marriott
  7. Other Projects
    1. Book Group – Monday 10/13, 6 pm, Coffeesmith’s, 100 Days in Deadland by Rachel Aukes who will be at ICON
    2. Monday 11/24 Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum at Cath and Brian’s home
    3. Game Library – will be at ICON, getting more games
  8. Old Business
    1. MidCon14 comic book convention was last weekend, about 150 or so people, didn’t sell any memberships but handed out lots of flyers, went well for a first year convention.
    2. XenoCon 3 gaming convention is Oct 3-5 in Davenport IA
    3. Iowa City Book Fair Saturday 10/4 on the downtown ped mall
    4. Zombie March was last weekend and a success. It’s charities this year:
      1. Humane Society of Johnson County received $141,
      2. Table to Table received 124 lbs of food and $91. That $91 has about $2730 worth of impact on the local community,
      3. Waypoint received $646 from t-shirt sales, donations and the door.
    5. Extra Life 24 hour gaming event at The Hobby Corner 10 AM Saturday, October 25, 2014 through 10 AM Sunday – co sponsored by The Hobby Corner and Gamicon. This is a charity fund-raiser for The UIHC Children’s Hospital. Team Gamicon is trying to raise $1,000. Please go to http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=14884 and donate now. Your donation is tax-deductible and ALL PROCEEDS go to help kids.
  9. New Business
    1. ICON 40 report and Proposal
    2. Denny presented preliminary budget for ICON 40, needs to be approved at Nov 1st Mindbridge Meeting at ICON 39.
    3. Marty is putting screen he’s donating to Mindbridge in the Storage Locker in the next few days – Thanks Marty!
    4. MB is on the speed dial list for a second temperature controlled storage locker, probably won’t have before ICON.

Next Meeting – Wednesday, Nov 5, 2014 at Denny Lynch’s house
