Wylde Nept is extremely popular with attendance between 100 and 200 people. We normally schedule them for Friday evening after Opening Ceremonies/TICC skit although sometimes scheduled for Saturday evening.
The hotel has been providing a cash bar at no charge to ICON since outside beverages are prohibited on the main floor.
Wylde Nept was started when a few of the guys found each other during a camping trip at a Celtic music festival and they’ve been playing ever since. Their music, primarily inspired by traditional folk, is lively, fun and sure get your face smiling and foot tapping. When listening to Wylde Nept, you can have tear in your eye during one song and then swinging a beer wildly around while singing with the crowd during the next.
The band plays many traditional songs like, “Whiskey in the Jar,” “The Scotsman” and many more. They also have many original songs like “Bewitchin’ Brenda” and “The Gallows.”
They have been called a folk band, rock band, and have even opened for FogHat once upon a time. But they don’t just perform the music, or try to recreate the songs how they may have originally been presented; Instead, they capture the feeling behind the songs and do an incredible job at putting it to music and sucking in the audience. Wylde Nept’s members consist of: Westan James (Lead Vocals), Steven James (Accordion & Vocals also brother of Westan), Jon Southwood (Guitars, Mandolin, & Vocals), Wayne “The Punisher” Twombley (Guitars & Vocals), Brian Fahrner (Bass & Vocals), and last, but not least, George “The Littlest Viking” Curtis Jr. (Bodhran, Dumbek, & Vocals). They have at least 4 albums currently out.
“Come see us. If you think you don’t like folk music, you might change your mind,” says George.
